The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (12A)

Sunday 27 Oct 20248:00pm

Screening in tribute to the late Dame Maggie Smith

Like many we were devastated to hear of the death of Dame Maggie Smith at 89, whose career has spanned the theatrical, film and television world without equal. Her work, which ranged from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie to Harry Potter to Downton Abbey, brought her global recognition, as well as two Oscars and eight Baftas.

But Smith also excelled in non-comedic dramatic roles, performing opposite Laurence Olivier for the National Theatre, winning a best actress Bafta for The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, and playing the title role in Ingmar Bergman’s 1970 production of Hedda Gabler. She was ther recipient of countless awards and nominations for her theatrical performances including a Tony Award and one of the few to receive the Triple Crown of Acting.

Following a recent poll on our social media channels, the Alan Bennett film THE LADY IN THE VAN received the most number of votes and remains one of the most popular films screened at The Riverside, but THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE was a close second, and as it was the film in which she won her first Oscar, we have decided to screen that too.

We are delighted to be able to screen these films in her honour and for a percentage of the ticket sales to go to one of the many charities of which she was a supporter.

All tickets £7.00 with membership list suspended, or see both films for £10 (simply select a seat for each film and the overall ticket price will be reduced in your basket)
