In 1939, on the eve of war, a huge ship burial was discovered at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk, laden with golden treasures, befitting Anglo-Saxon royalty. Now, a team of shipwrights and volunteers at The Longshed in Woodbridge are building a scale reconstruction, as acccurately as possible, using traditional methods.

Michelangelo - Love and Death offers a cinematic journey through the great chapels and museums of Florence, Rome and the Vatican, to the print and drawing rooms of Europe, to explore Michelangelo's tempestuous life. The film goes in search of a greater understanding of this charismatic and enigmatic figure, both through his relationships with his contemporaries and his ongoing artistic legacy.

The film invites audiences to intimately examine Michelangelo’s art and artistic process - from the Carrara quarries where Michelangelo sourced his marble, to the new technology being used to attribute works. The film also offers a rare chance to get up close to the mesmerising Rothschild Bronzes, which, following an extensive research project carried out by Academics in Cambridge in 2015, were positively attributed to Michelangelo after over a century of debate.

Key contributors to the film include art critics Martin Gayford and Jonathan Jones, Deputy Director of the Vatican Museums Professor Arnold Nesselrath and contemporary artist Tania Kovats.

Filming locations include Casa Buonarroti in Florence, Carrara marble mines, the Medici Chapel and the Vatican. These beautiful locations, combined with high-resolution views of Michelangelo’s greatest works, convene to create a staggering visual experience.

We are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership between The Royal Ballet and Opera and The Metropolitan Opera, who are joining forces to bring Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the final opera of The Met: Live in HD24/25 Season, into the Royal Ballet and Opera’s 24/25 Cinema Season!

This is the first time that the two leading opera companies in the world are partnering on their in-cinema offering and is an opportunity for RBO loyal audiences to see the Met’s world-class, critically acclaimed production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, which is sure to be a blockbuster.

A fan-favourite opera by Rossini, Il Barbiere is also ideal for new audiences. The Met production will feature highly theatrical staging under the direction of renowned theatre and opera director, Olivier Award nominee and Tony Award-winner, Bartlett Sher.  It is one of the most accessible, entry-level operas and has consistently generated excitement with new audiences.

Barbiere’s casting will also make it a must-see for the RBO’s loyal cinema audiences – Aigul Akhmetshina was in the RBO’s 2024 Carmen (as well as in the Met’s production of the same in 2023/24), which was the RBO’s highest-performing opera title in the 2023/24 cinema and on-stage seasons. Andrey Zhilikhovsky starred as Marcello in the RBO’s 2022 La bohème.

Gillian Anderson (Sex Education), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), and Ben Foster (Lone Survivor) lead the cast in Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece, returning to cinemas.

Ulzii, a teenager from a poor neighbourhood in Ulaanbaatar, is determined to win a physics competition to get a scholarship. His illiterate mother finds a job in the countryside, leaving him and his younger brother and sister in the middle of winter.

Ulzii needs to find ways to keep their yurt warm and look after his siblings while preparing for the national competition.
